Les autorités ont ordonné la suspension des services d'Internet mobile dans le district de Nuh, dans l'Haryana, à la suite d'affrontements entre communautés. Des ordres conséquents ont été émis pour prolonger la suspension jusqu'aux 8, 11 et 13 août 2023. L'administration de Nuh a déclaré dans un communiqué officiel : "Afin d'arrêter la propagation de fausses informations et de rumeurs par le biais de diverses plateformes de médias sociaux, telles que WhatsApp, Facebook Twitter, etc. sur les téléphones mobiles et les SMS, pour faciliter et mobiliser des foules d'agitateurs et de manifestants qui peuvent causer de graves pertes de vies humaines et des dommages aux propriétés publiques et privées en se livrant à des incendies criminels ou au vandalisme et à d'autres types d'activités violentes." Selon Wikipédia, le district de Nuh (anciennement connu sous le nom de district de Mewat) est l'un des 22 districts de l'État indien de Haryana. Il comptait 1,09 million d'habitants en 2011. Les coupures d'Internet pendant les manifestations ou les troubles civils ont un impact sur la capacité des citoyens à obtenir des informations précises de la part des sources gouvernementales au moment où ils en ont le plus besoin. Il devient également plus difficile pour les citoyens de contacter les membres de leur famille et leurs amis dans d'autres régions du pays ou dans d'autres pays.

It also becomes harder for citizens to contact family members and friends in other parts of the country, or other countries.

Officials in Darbhanga District have ordered for social networking sites and instant messaging service to be blocked for 72 hours to reduce 'objectionable content' being spread amongst the public that may "incite offences and disturb the peace". The district administration took the decision to stop the Internet services under section 5 of the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885.
