A resilient Internet connection is one that maintains an acceptable level of service in the face of faults and challenges to normal operation.
Internet Resiliency is a new focus area for Pulse for 2021 and we’re still working on defining the data and metrics for this section. Once finalized, we’ll track resiliency metrics to help support the development of policies and infrastructure to improve Internet resilience at the local, regional and global level.
Our initial focus will be on tracking Internet resiliency in Africa and we are working closely with Internet Society Organization Member and Pulse Data Partner AFRINIC, the Regional Internet Registry (RIR) for Africa, on this.

Internet Society’s Kevin Chege, Director Internet Development, and AFRINIC’s Amreesh Phokeer, Research Manager, explain how they plan on measuring Internet resilience on the continent in their recent session at the West and Central African Research and Education Network (WACREN) 2021 Annual Conference. They will shortly be publishing a paper with more details about this effort.
