Jharkhand State authorities ordered mobile Internet services to be suspended across the state on 21 and 22 September 2024, between 8:00 and 13:30 (local time) to avoid malpractice during General Graduate Level Combined Competitive Examinations. The estimated population of Jharkhand state is 40.6 million.
These orders are similar to those issued in Assam state earlier this month.
According to a report, Jharkhand Bar Council chairman Rajendra Krishna challenged the state government’s decision to suspend the Internet. The court observed that while the state is empowered to impose such restrictions, the question remains whether it can do so to conduct an exam. The state has been asked to file a reply within four weeks.
