Country Report
Botswana
The percentage of Internet users in Botswana is relatively high, ranked ninth for Africa. Encouragingly the 1.6 million Internet users have a good diversity of retail ISPs to choose from. Such competition bodes well with connecting the remaining third of the population. Its poor transit provider diversity is a concern though. More transit providers increases the redundancy of the Internet services and helps to ensure that users remain connected in the event that something happens to the providers that supply international connectivity. Having local ISPs connect to the local IXP also helps reduce transit costs and latency.
