The suspension of Internet services in Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir was decided as a “preventive” measure following the Home Ministry's ban on the Jama'at-e-Islami (JeI) group and the restrictions imposed in certain areas of Kashmir. The aim was to reduce the risk of unrest and maintain law and order following the announcement of the ban and the implementation of restrictions in areas such as Srinagar, Anantnag and other districts of South Kashmir.
