Uttar Pradesh authorities have again ordered SMS, mobile Internet services, and broadband services, including FTTH, ADSL, DSL, and wireless, to be suspended in the Bareilly district amid ongoing tensions and ahead of religious festivities.
Local impact
The Internet suspension covered all mobile networks from 2G to 5G and was effective from Thursday, 2 October, 15:00, to Saturday, 4 October, 15:00. It comes three days after services resumed following a two-day shutdown from 25—27 September.

Small traders are the most troubled
Dinesh Goel, state president of the Indian Industries Association, said that big traders are somehow working by transacting from nearby districts, but small shopkeepers and customers are badly affected. Meeran State, a footwear wholesaler, said buyers from nearby districts had stopped coming to Bareilly. Business is stalled due to not being able to bill.
Drug supply and treatment crisis
District chemist association president Durgesh Khatwani said the wholesale drug trade was closed. Patients undergoing treatment on Ayushman Bharat scheme are facing difficulty as the entire system is dependent on the internet. Sanjeev Pandey of Kailash Charitable Trust said that the patients are suffering due to the stoppage of treatment.
Delay in patient leave
Neelu Singh, daughter of a patient admitted at SRMS Medical College, said that the mother has to pay Rs one lakh online to get discharged, but due to the internet shutdown, the bill is not being deposited. Similarly, small consumers are also worried due to non-payment of barcodes.
Government work also affected
Many government services, including property registration, have been affected. People, especially from poorer sections, are most vulnerable to non-availability of ATMs and digital payments, a senior official said. The administration said that internet services will be restored as soon as the situation normalises."
