Odisha’s Sundargarh administration ordered a 24-hour suspension of Internet services in the town following local unrest.
Local impact
Sundargarh collector Subhankar Mohapatra told reporters, Internet services were suspended for "24 hours from 6 p.m." local time.
No details were given to the type of Internet services that were suspended.
All schools, colleges, and other educational institutions in the Sundargarh municipality were closed on Friday, 16 January 2026, as a safety measure, the collector said.
All shops and commercial establishments, excluding medical stores, milk vans, and other emergency services, in the town will remain closed, said Tejaswini Behera, sub-collector, Sundargarh (Sadar).
Local reports confirm that Internet services were restored on Friday, 16 January, following a review of the law-and-order situation by the district administration.
