Additional Chief Secretary to Government, Home Department, Shri Satyabrata Sahu, issued the orders under the provisions of Section 20 of the Telecommunications Act 2023, to prevent the spread of inflammatory and motivated messages. The original orders seek to suspend the following services from 8 December 2025, 18:00 to 9 December 2025, 18:00 local time:
- The use of WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and other social media services of all mobile service providers
- mobile Internet/data services of all mobile service providers
- Internet/data services of all ISPs
- broadband dial-up, and any such means or modes of transmission.
The orders were extended six times until 15 December 12:00.
