Local impact

The suspension, enacted under Rule 3, Section 20 of the Telecommunications Act, 2023, covered all mobile networks from 2G to 5G and was effective from Tuesday, 19 August, 11:00 to Thursday, 21 August, 11:00.

Additional Chief Secretary of the Home Department, Sumita Mishra, was quoted by local media to have extended the order by 24 hours, stating that this decision was taken due to the potential for tension, protests, damage to public and private property, and disturbance of peace.
