Measuring the Internet is critical for understanding, improving, governing, and ensuring equitable, secure, and resilient access to what has become a foundational global utility.
This December, Pulse and its partners will be holding four days of Internet measurement research discussions and training, highlighting the outcomes of the 2025 Pulse Research Fellows and joint efforts to increase Internet connectivity in schools in underserved regions.
The inaugural Internet Society Pulse Research Week will take place in Barcelona, Spain, and online from 8 to 11 December 2025, comprising:
| Pulse Internet Measurement Forum, Spain Hybrid | The Internet Society Pulse Internet Measurement Forum (PIMF) provides an opportunity to learn about various projects that measure the development and resilience of the Internet, as well as how to use open data for research and reports on the challenges and opportunities for growing and securing the Internet. Facilitated by Internet Society Pulse 8—9 December, 9:00—17:00 UTC+1 |
| Internet Yellow Pages Training In-person | During this half-day training, participants will be introduced to the IYP’s structure and data, demonstrating how to query and interpret real-world datasets, and its potential integration with broader monitoring and research platforms. Facilitated by Romain Fontugne, IIJ 10 December, 9:00—12:00 UTC+1 |
| Internet Data Trust Workshop Hybrid | The Internet Data Trust (IDT) is a public interest institution dedicated to preserving Internet data based on principles of ethics and collaboration, with the primary goal of achieving century-scale preservation of historical datasets. This workshop aims to introduce the IDT concept and collaboratively develop strategies for its long-term sustainability. Facilitated by Jim Cowie 10 December, 13:00—17:00 UTC+1 |
| Measuring School Connectivity in Underserved Regions Invite only | High-quality Internet is vital for education, yet a connectivity gap persists for many underserved schools. This workshop will review Pulse measurements, M-Lab’s Internet Quality Barometer (IQB) framework, and Giga’s school mapping efforts to collaboratively identify solutions and data-driven strategies for improving school connectivity across underserved areas. Hosted by Giga UNICEF, Internet Society Pulse, and Measurement Lab 11 December, 9:00—17:00 UTC+1 |
