In the spirit of annual reviews, we thought we’d share with you a few insights into how you and others have been using Pulse in 2024.
The most popular features of Pulse in 2024 were the Blog and the Internet Shutdown Tracker, which collectively account for around two out of every three visits to the site.
In terms of the Blog, the five most viewed posts in 2024 were all shutdown-related:
- How India Internet Users Are Circumventing Internet Shutdowns
- Stop Exam Shutdowns in 2024
- Tracking Internet shutdowns in 2023
- Iraq to Shutdown Internet During 2024 Exam Period
- Internet Censorship Verging on Service Blocking Ahead of Venezuela Elections
The first of these was written by one of our growing list of guest authors from civil society and the Interne measurement community. The growth and success of the blog have been thanks largely to our guest authors and community sharing their analysis of the availability, evolution, and resilience of the Internet.
Top Guest Posts:
- Censorship and Sanctions Impacting Iran’s Internet, Report

As for shutdowns, many of the significant spikes in views were related to days during or after Internet shutdowns, particularly shutdowns associated with exams in Algeria, Iraq, and Syria and the series of shutdown events in Bangladesh over July and August.
While many of our overall views originated from users located in these afflicted countries, around 45% of our users are based in the USA, UK, Canada, France, Poland, Spain, Australia, and Germany. Granted, many of these views may be from users in other countries who are using Virtual Private Networks.
Finally, the top 10 most viewed Pulse Country Reports were predominantly countries based in Africa (n=4) and Asia (n=4).
