Sri Lanka has banned social media again following a reported flare-up in religious tensions, three weeks after a series of suicide bombings rocked the country.Facebook (FB) and its mobile messaging platform WhatsApp were both blocked on Monday, as was another popular messaging app, Viber, a senior Sri Lankan government official said.The platforms were blocked to prevent “social unrest via hate messages and false information,” Nalaka Kaluwewa, director general of the country’s Department of Government Information, told CNN.

Srinagar, May 12 (UNI) Two Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants, including a cop, who deserted police last year, were killed by security forces in an encounter which ensued during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in Shopian district in south Kashmir, official sources said. Mobile internet service has been suspended in Shopian as a precautionary measure to prevent spread of rumours.

Police have constituted a special investigation team to investigate the alleged rape case of a 3-year-old girl in Bandipora district on May 8. Police have already arrested the accused. Région de Sopore du district de Baramulla, Shopian, Jammu et Cachemire
A shutdown is being observed in Sopore area of Baramulla district against the killing of a local militant in Amshipora-Ramnagri village of Shopian on Friday early morning. Reports said that soon after the news of the killing of rumoured militant identified as Ishfaq Ahmad Sofi, a resident of Model Town Sopore spread, all the shops, educational institutes and other business establishments remained shut in the town. However, authorities are yet to identify the slain militant. Following the episode, internet services were also suspended in the area for precautionary measures.

Authorities on Saturday suspended the internet services in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district following an encounter between the government forces and militants at Aripal Tral area of Pulwama district. Reports said that soon after the news of an encounter spread, the internet services in the district were restricted by the authorities. An official said that the service has been suspended for the “precautionary measures”.
