Bocas del Toro

Local authorities have announced a state of emergency amid unrest in the province of Bocas del Toro, Panama. Following the announcement, Panama's telecom regulator, the National Public Services Authority (ASEP), issued a letter on 20 June 2025 to telecommunication and Internet service providers to suspend the provisioning of cellular mobile telephony and Internet services in the province of Bocas del Toro.

Local impact

On 21 June, ASEP followed with another official statement clarifying that the shutdown of Internet access only concerns residential users, excluding health, commerce, and government sectors of the shutdown. The statement also clarified that this measure was initially expected to last until 25 June 2025, however, the government extended the exceptional measures until Sunday 29 June.

Residential Internet users in Bacos del Toro were affected by the Internet shutdown.
