We’ve recently migrated around 700 blog and news pages and re-run the translations, so there are some slight changes if you use the site in Spanish or French—we hope for the better. You might have noticed some ways that Pulse looks and behaves differently. We’ve been migrating everything from our previous Wordpress site to a Wagtail site that uses Django for the back end.
Improvements
Pages are lighter, cleaner, and load faster
The pages are 50-60% smaller, and we’ve made load times an average of 70% faster. This reduces our carbon footprint by 80%, and it also makes our site easier to use in low-connectivity environments or on poor connections. We also improved the page layout, giving the content a little more room to breathe.
Easier and faster search, with improved metadata
Search is faster, and it’s better, too, thanks to improved metadata and navigation across tags, categories and authors.
User-friendly RSS feeds
Before this update, if you used RSS, it just gave you a post overview, which wasn’t always helpful. Now you can choose to subscribe to the blog and news RSS separately, and you get the full content when you do.
Other Updates
Updated and improved machine translations
We currently use machine translations in Pulse, and we’ve taken the opportunity to make the most of any DeepL improvements since the previous posts were published. So you might notice some different translations—let us know if you spot anything that doesn’t look right.
